Pratiques identitaires à Madagascar

Le Famadihana est une céramonie de retournement des morts pour rendre hommage aux ancêtres; il est très fréquent sur les Hauts Plateaux de Madagascar et organisé au moins un an après l’enterrement. Le Fanompoa be est une cérémonie traditionnelle au cours de laquelle les inébranlables défenseurs de la monarchie sakalava du Boeny procèdent au rituel de bain des reliques d’Andriamisara Efadahy Manankasina. Tous les deux sont des coutumes funéraires et ont une liaison avec la mort, mais diffèrent sur beaucoup de points: nominations, déroulement, formes, etc. Beaucoup pensent que ce ne sont que des traditions comme toute autre tradition, mais elles revêtent leurs particularités propres, un sens et une signification qui, d'une part, échappent au commun des mortels, et font parties des plus grandes pratiques identitaires Malgaches d'autre part.

The Famadihana is a ceremony for turning the dead to pay homage to the ancestors; it is very common on the Highlands of Madagascar and is organised at least one year after the burial. The Fanompoa be is a traditional ceremony during which the steadfast defenders of the Sakalava Boeny monarchy perform the ritual of bathing the relics of Andriamisara Efadahy Manankasina. Both are funeral customs and have a connection with death, but differ on many points: appointments, procedure, forms, etc. Many think that these are just traditions like any other tradition, but they take on their own particularities, a meaning and a significance which on the one hand escape ordinary people, and on the other are part of the greatest Malagasy identity practices.

Graduated in Specialised Higher Studies in Educational Sciences at the ENS de Fianarantsoa, she is is currently engaged in a new doctoral thesis in Anthropology.
