This volume contains 163 colour images, mostly taken by Jean-Claude Nourault, accompanied by text in French (by Paul Ginther) and English (translated by Sheila Ribaud). There are brief sections on the history, geography, agriculture, ethnic groups, etc., but for the most part this work is pictorial. Printed on high quality, heavy duty paper.

And seeks to be different from the rest.
Will she remain so for long?
May all those who have trod her red soil
And breathed her perfume

Ainsi vit, un peu à l'écart. du Monde
cette grande Ile de Madagascar
mal connue et pourtant bien-aimée
qui vogue, toute seule,
loin des grandes terres,
et se veut différente des- autres.
Le restera-t-elle longtemps ?
Puissent tous ceux qui ont foulé son sol rouge
et respiré son odeur,
retrouver au long de nos images
une nouvelle occasion de ne jamais
