The Great Red Island

A full-page travel article about Madagascar published in "Harpers & Queen" by the magazine's Travel Editor Rene Lecler. There are five small black and white photographs taken by the author.

• Undated. The date of publication must not have been before 1970 as there are references to "Harpers Bazarre & Queen" (the magazine from which this page was removed). Harpers Bazaar and Queen, two rival publications, merged in 1970. The article would have been published before 1986, as this is the year the author, Rene Lecler, died. There are clues on the reverse side of the page that suggest the article was published in or shortly after 1970. Both The Ark safari lodge in Kenya and Tarangire National Park in Tanzania are described as newly opened. These were established in 1969 and 1970 respectively.
